How To Replace New Construction Vinyl Windows

Replacing new construction vinyl windows is a great way to update the look of your home while adding extra insulation. While it can be a big job, it’s not impossible to do yourself with a few tools and some patience. Here are the steps you’ll need to take to replace your new construction vinyl windows.

Before you begin, be sure to measure your existing windows and order replacement windows to fit. You’ll also need to purchase caulk and new flashing, if necessary.

To begin, remove the interior trim from around the existing window. You’ll need to use a pry bar to remove the trim carefully. Once the trim is removed, use a reciprocating saw to cut through the nails holding the window in place. It’s important to use the saw carefully to avoid damaging the window frame or adjacent wall.

Next, remove the existing window and the frame. You may need to use a flat pry bar and a hammer to remove the frame. Be careful not to damage the surrounding wall.

Once the window is removed, you’ll need to install the new window. Begin by setting the window in the opening. Make sure the window is level and plumb. If necessary, use shims to level the window.

Secure the window in place with nails or screws. Make sure the fasteners are driven into the framing member of the window, not the wall. Drive the fasteners into the frame every 12 inches.

Now it’s time to install the flashing around the window. The flashing should be installed in a way that will direct water away from the window and the house. Make sure to use a high-quality flashing material. Install the flashing as per the manufacturer’s instructions.

Finally, reinstall the interior trim around the window. Make sure the trim is secured firmly with nails. Check the trim for any gaps or cracks and fill them in with caulk. Once you’ve finished, you can enjoy your new windows!
